The Bomber

Breakfast at the Bomber

Picture by Chris Bidlack. Breakfast at The Bomber. I’ve never finished this in one sitting. The Bomber has been here under various names since the 1930s. Inside, it is decorated wall to wall with WW II and post-war-era military paraphanalia, including schematics and images of the bombers built at Willow Run. The Bomber is not open for dinner, hours are 6 am to 3 pm most days. Saturdays are
a great day to go, lots of families, lots of regulars, lots of bikers. 306 E Michigan Ave Ypsilanti, MI 48198 (734) 482-0550

Nathan’s Family Soul Food

Cost: <$10 (Cash Only)
Style: Southern/Soul Food
What I ate: BBQ Sandwich, Mashed Potatoes, and Cornbread
Rating: 8/10

If you’re looking for real good soul food, you must take a trip down Michigan Ave. to a place called Nathan’s.  They have some of the best mashed potatoes I’ve ever had and the BBQ sandwich is as delicious as it is messy.  The place is very small, with only about three tables.  It’s mostly meant for carry-out, so expect a good wait if you decide to dine-in.  The restaurant is not at all fancy and the dining area not that clean, but if you’re just looking for some really good, authentic soul food, Nathan’s is the place to go.
